World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is observed annually on September 10th to raise awareness about suicide prevention and to highlight the role of communities in reducing suicide rates. In 2024, the global theme for WSPD was "Changing the Narrative," emphasizing the importance of proactive measures and community involvement in suicide prevention.

The event was observed bearing in mind the following objectives

  1. Raise Awareness: To increase understanding of suicide and its prevention.
  2. Promote Resources: To highlight available resources and support systems for individuals at risk.
  3. Encourage Dialogue: To foster open discussions about mental health and suicide.
  4. Inspire Action: To mobilize communities to take concrete steps in suicide prevention.

The event kicked off with a Bible reading and prayer followed by an array of talented singers, dancers, theatrical artists and poetry readers (students of Psychology) who serenaded the crowd with powerful performances. Signatures are collected to demonstrate community support for these initiatives. This celebration aimed to uplift spirits, spread awareness about mental health, and reinforce the message of hope and support for those affected by suicide.

The performances were met with an overwhelming response from the audience, who found the music and dance to be deeply moving and inspiring. Many attendees reported feeling renewed hope and connection due to the event.
