Govt. Hrangbana College, located in Chanmari in the city of Aizawl, was established in July, 1980. The College is christened after Mr. HRANGBANA (Late), one education minded and prominent businessman who generously donated a sum of Rupees one lakh to start the college from scratch. The College was upgraded to the Deficit Grant-in-Aid Status in 1985 and finally has become a Government College in 2003. It was affiliated to NEHU, Shillong and at present is under the Mizoram University. |

The college was accredited by NAAC in 2006 with a ‘B++’ grade and in the 2nd Cycle Assessment and Accreditation it was awarded 'A' grade in 2011 .In the third cycle it was accredited with a B++ with a CGPA of 2.76 on 2018. It is registered under section 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act. Govt Hrangbana College, a premier institution of higher learning, is a co-educational institution affiliated to Mizoram University and is situated in prime location of Aizawl, with various prominent residential societies and commercial ventures in its proximate neighbourhood. The college is accessible through both bus routes and is beside the busy street of Aizawl. |

The College adopted its own emblem with motto ‘Truth Prevails’. The emblem comprises of the rising sun and an opened book with the motto inscribed inside the emblem. The opened book communicates the message that now the education shall be made available to all those who were deprived of it so far. The rising sun conveys that the college shall render education that will lead people from darkness to light, from ignorance to knowledge and from the unknown to the known. The motto “Truth Prevails” conveys that the College shall attempt to achieve its objectives only through the ‘truth’ according to the principle of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the Nation.
Both the motto and the emblem together underline the high and noble principle with which the college shall attempt to work in the field of education and also frame the philosophy and guiding force as to how the college should progress and prosper.

The college is a co-ed college with Commerce & Arts faculty. At present, the college offers B.A. with subjects English, Mizo, History, Geography, Education, Political Science ,Economics, Public Administration and Psychology . UG and PG commerce subject are also offered.
The college has adequate infrastructural facilities – class rooms, library, computer laboratory, Language lab etc. Apart from the regular teaching learning activities, the college strives for the overall development of the adopted village where students can conduct various extra-curricular activities .
The college has conducted a good number of extension activities to strengthen college neighborhood network. The NSS unit is an asset to the college which allows 600 volunteers. This unit conducts various extension activities to help our students become aware of their social responsibilities. The college has been working sincerely for the betterment of the students. Apart from various government scholarships, the college is attempting to implement Earn & Learn scheme for the poor and needy students.
In the current session 2023-24, there are around 2000 students
