REPORT ON CM BANA KAIH CHALLENGE
Chief Minister Bana Kaih Challenge was organized by Planning and Implementation Department which comprises four components such as
- Higher Educational Institutes Local Immersion Programme
- Departmental Innovation Challenge
- District Innovation Challenge
- Investor’s Challenge
A total number of 26 colleges had participated in Higher Educational Institutes Local Immersion Programme. As per the guidelines received from the Planning and Implementation Department, Government of India, Govt. Hrangbana College participated in the Local Immersion SDG Project in the adopted village of Bungzung.
Preparatory work
The Department of Commerce was given responsibility for this challenge by the principal, therefore a group of selected 18 students and three faculty members from the department travelled to Bungzung for three days and four nights, from February 25 to February 28, 2025. The programme aimed to enhance understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and support rural development.
During the project, students gained hands-on experience of rural life. They following two steps are taken for the identification of the needs of the village:
- House – to- house survey
House-to-house survey using structured questionnaires covering various aspects of the SDGs to assess local needs. Since the village’s main economy is based on agriculture, students focused on how agricultural or other primary activities could improve livelihoods. The surveys also gathered information on infrastructure, health, education, economy, and living conditions.

- Meeting with village leaders
Students interacted with villagers and organized a meeting at the local community hall. Local council members, community leaders, and representatives from NGOs attended the meeting. Discussions centered on identifying the problems faced by the village and possible solutions.
Additionally, students engaged in voluntary social work. They repainted the public toilet and waiting shed, with active participation.
Through this programme, students acquired practical knowledge about rural development and improved their skills in research, problem-solving, and community collaboration.

Pitching of solution
At a symposium on March 25, 2025, at Vanapa Hall, Government Hrangbana College showcased a project called "The Buzz in Bungzung." The idea won first place and a monetary incentive of three lakh rupees. Its goal is to promote beekeeping in the adopted hamlet of Bungzung.
On March 28, 2025, the top three winners were given their prizes, and the college was presented with the honour from the Hon. Minister of H&TE.
In addition, Fayek Ahmed, a second-semester BCOM student, won an award for placing third in the Investor's Challenge (Open Category).

OUTCOME: The program provided students with practical exposure, helping them develop skills in performance and collaboration. The immersion project in Bungzung offered valuable learning opportunities for the students of Government Hrangbana College. The recognition and awards received by the participants reflect their effort and commitment, along with the guidance of their mentor.
