A career guidance programme was jointly organized by the Department of English and Department of Political Science, in collaboration with Career Guidance & Campus Placement Cell, GHBC for VI semester and IV Semester students, at the Conference Hall from 10:00 am onwards which lasted for about 1½ hours. The gathering was enlightened by our esteemed resource person, Mr. Alan Lalthanzara, MCS who is currently serving as Deputy Secretary GAD(SAW) / DP&AR (SSW) under Govt. of Mizoram.

The speaker’s insightful approach to the context was both productive not only for the students, but for the faculty members as well.  A clear-cut demarcation between a job, a career, and a calling was explicitly explained where students were challenged to make the right choices from early stage to make a long-term plan, as well as the need to have a back-up plan.

A SWOT analysis was also emphasized, prompting the students to have a self-analysis on their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. A good advice given to the students was to have a habitual reading of newspapers, magazines, watching news segments, which for beginners may be difficult at the start, but to make a gradual practice so as to acquire a foundational knowledge of most current events. Mr. Alan also laid emphasis on the urgency of financial literacy, which is the need of the hour; that everything can either be a liability or an asset, and to differentiate what one wants and what one needs. All in all, it was a rewarding experience for all the listeners.
