Institution integrates cross cutting issues relevant to Gender, Environment and Sustainability, Human Values and Professional Ethics into the Curriculum


Efforts undertaken by the college to integrate the issues mentioned above are as follows-

Gender

The cultural character and mindset within the college and outside community has embraced gender equality as a norm from the very early years. As such, gender frictions are minimal. However, the UGC sensitivity to gender issues has been fully endorsed by the institution and the Equal Opportunity Cell has been initiated with committed faculties and student representatives to sensitise the various gender issues, equipping them to be champions for the underprivileged and creating legal awareness in this respect.

Climate Change and Environmental Education

  • Environment Education has been made a compulsory subject as "Environmental Studies" in the UG syllabus prepared by the Mizoram University. Through this, environmental education and awareness is given to the students in many aspects. Practical steps to make environmental awareness and consciousness is undertaken as a part of the curriculum.
  • The NSS of the college organized different activities related to environmental education such as making paper bags for anti-polythene drive, participated in cleanliness drives, writing slogans, constructing public toilets in several villages and at strategic places in Aizawl city, and tree plantations in different villages/sites adopted and maintained by them.
  • A seminar on waste management and green drive in collaboration with SIPMUI, Mizoram has been organised.
  • The Adventure Club of the college annually organises environmental adventure camping.
  • The college frequently organises debates, essay writings and special camping on climate change and environmental issues.
  • Activities and practices within the campus to control pollution and wastes has been initiated by the Cleanliness and Beautification Cell.
  • Environment awareness campaigns are incorporated in social gatherings and formal functions of the college.

Information and Communication Technology

  • The college recognises that the survival and success of the students in the real world is directly related to their capacity and comprehension of ICT. With this in view, various steps has been taken, keeping in view that the college has, being an affiliated college with limited means. Thus, collaborations has been sought and attained with the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT). NIELIT has encamped itself in the campus, the study centre has been rented free of cost, with all facilities opened to them for free use. In turn, the students are given computer education to the students as well as faculties to gain knowledge on communication device and application, computer, both hardware and software, networks etc.
  • Teaching-learning process is done by using LCD projectors, laptop etc. Classrooms are equipped with such facilities.
  • Free internet service are made available to all the students, and are encouraged to undertake references and further their study using the web. In fact, suggested websites are given to the students by teachers and methods to filter information are also suggested.
  • The college administration is done through local area networking, the faculties are equipped with latest ICT for facilitating the teaching and delivery, and research works. Information of activities/events/ meetings are communicated to the faculties through whatsapp/ sms/ emails.
  • The library is equipped with the latest technology and numerous e-books and e-journals are made freely available for access.

Moral and Ethical values:

The institution’s motto is 'truth prevails' and the mission is to mould and promote holistic development of each student individually. As such, the college is passionately committed to inculcating moral and ethical values. Almost all activities point towards that truth, propagating the importance of moral and ethical values.

  • The topics/theme chosen for social, debating and cultural activities in the annual college week programme will generally contain moral and ethical issues, i.e., for group discussions, essay writing competition, poetry writing competition, extempore speech, debate, elocution.
  • Recognition and felicitation of students, faculties, alumni and prominent citizens, who have undertaken the conciliatory step for the betterment of the underprivileged and promoting moral and ethical issues.
  • The different clubs of the students like the NCC, NSS, Evangelical Union and Adventure Clubs are allotted different responsibilities in organizing various events and activities such as cultural, religious, social work programmes to improve their team building and organizational skills, as well as developing their moral and ethical values.
  • The Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), the largest and most prominent non-government organisation in Mizoram undertakes tirelessly to fight and control drugs trafficking in Mizoram. The College has worked to study the economic implications of such socially harmful practices and has also volunteered to assist them in their combat against the drugs abuse and marketing of such drugs and other related toxic substances.
  • The students are made aware of their rights and duties, and the legal implications by organising legal awareness campaigns. The Legal Cell and the Grievance Redressal Cell exclusively caters to the students' needs in this respect, i/e., the moral and ethical issues.
  • The Commerce and Economics students also undertake studies on Consumer Protection Act, Right to Information Act, and have interacted with SEBI on ethical standards on trading and other commercial issues.
  • Seminar/workshops/functions are organised to instill moral and ethical issues from time to time. Some recent seminars were on -
    • 'Youth and Drinking of Liquor: An indepth analysis from medical and economic perspectives'
    • Sensitisation and Prevention of Suicides
    • Training on awareness and sensitisation programme on pre-disaster and pre-hospitalization.

Better Career Options:

  • The job definitions and descriptions, the career path of today has been considerably redefined and is very different from a decade ago. Therefore, the traditional job search pattern and qualifications does not always land the students with a job, not to mention a career. The college is acutely aware of preparing the students for such a situation, not only physically and mentally but spiritually. The faculties especially the Career and Counselling Cell gives special lectures on Career options, and counsellors are invited periodically to prepare them mentally. Also, eminent business leaders, scholars, professors and prominent citizens are invited to address their personal career path, share experiences and success stories to the students.
  • Apart from the programs organised by the Career and Counseling Cell and the UGC Sponsored Service Coaching, the college provides computer classes for the students to develop their skills of basic computer operating principles which include Basic Computer Operation, MS office, Internet operations, Tally etc.
  • It is mandatory for commerce students to develop devices for survey/charts/questionnaire/drafts/diagrams/budgets etc. Selling of product/policies and interaction with clients/insurance agents etc.
  • Supporting and facilitating the Self Support Union (SSU) to enable them to earn while learning, and even setting a career path while learning. Collaboration with business/financial institutions to provide loans to initiate start up capitals.

Community Orientation:

  • The college NSS team regularly visits surrounding areas and villages where people are provided awareness on various social, moral, ethical principles and ways of life. Both the NSS and the Red Ribbon clubs of the college regularly organize Blood Donation Camps, AIDS awareness debate, Drugs abuse, Alcoholism, Legal awareness and Environmental awareness programs. Posters and pamphlets are also distributed regularly on these matters.
  • The college also provides personality development sessions, debate competitions and computer coaching classes for the society.
  • The NSS of the college participates every year in National integration Camp, both inside and outside Mizoram. It also often organizes programs on historical exploration of the State.
  • The Adventure Club participates every year in Youth Adventure Camp, engages the students in different programs such as trekking, skiing and interacts with other states in its national program,observation of World AIDS day, Blood Donation Day, Women’s Day, Mental Health Day etc.
  • UGC sponsored Civil Service Coaching Course caters to the interested fifth and sixth semester students, as well as the community at large and is open to graduate students from all background.It is open to all.
  • The institution is interlinked with the neigbouring community in many aspects for social and educational purposes.
  • NSS adopts villages, especially in the remote areas in constructing toilets and other waiting sheds, planting trees, construction of wells and spreading awareness on hygiene and other health issues.

  • Environmental economists study the economics of natural resources.
  • It covers the issues of Development and Environment, Sustainable Development and Valuation of environment, Pollution control and Global Environmental Issues.
Industrial Economics
  • Industrial Economics is the study of firms, industries, and markets. It looks at firms of all sizes – from local corner shops to multinational giants.
  • It considers a whole range of industries, such as electricity generation, car production, and restaurants, analyse decision making at the levels of the individual firm and industry Industrial.
POLITICAL SCIENCEHuman Rights
  • It studies decisions about many crucial issues how aid funding is distributed, how refugee and migration movements are regulated, when and why states may engage in armed conflict with each other.
  • Human rights influence domestic politics figure in many people’s ethical judgments and persona lvalues.

  • It studies empowering women in Political Participation and Leadership, New Tactics in Human Rights has sought to uncover the tools, tactics and resources used by individuals.

  • Women's writing, as a discrete area of literary studies and practice, is recognized explicitly by the numbers of dedicated journals, organizations, awards.
COMMERCEEnglish II (Gender Sensitization: Foundation Course)
  • The paper is divided into two main parts, one is to see whether gender bias still occurs in textbooks and the other part of the paper tries to provide a gender sensitizing element in implementing the text.

Social Welfare Administration

  • Applied Social Psychology (APS) is a science which studies social influences on behaviour: the power of the situation and various roles of applied social psychologists.
  • ASP to the community: It studies courses defining community psychology, community psychology values and approaches; sense of community-life in the city, the internet as a community and source of help.
