World Theatre Day Celebration Event

On 27th March 2025 (Thursday), the Mizo Drama Society, in collaboration with the Mizo Department of Govt. Hrangbana College, organized the World Theatre Day 2025 celebration at the I&PR Auditorium. The event was graced by Pi Carol VLMS Dawngkimi, Director of the Art & Culture Department, as the chief guest.

In her speech, Pi Carol acknowledged the significant contributions of the Mizo Drama Society in promoting and advancing theatre. She expressed appreciation for their dedicated efforts in this field. She also noted that in contemporary Mizo society, the appreciation and demand for films and drama have increased considerably, with people widely consuming them for entertainment. Given this trend, she emphasized the need to actively support and promote theatre.

To further this initiative, a three-month drama course has been introduced under the Art & Culture Department. She stated that, despite this, there are still not enough students enrolling in the course and encouraged aspiring individuals to take advantage of the opportunity.

Aligning with this year’s World Theatre Day theme, "Theatre and a Culture of Peace," she urged attendees to uphold and promote peace and harmony through theatre.

At this event, the Mizo Drama Society announced the results of the theatre competition held in celebration of this year’s World Theatre Day and immediately distributed the prizes. The top three winners were awarded, and the chief guest, Pi Carol, also released the compilation book of outstanding plays, titled "Chantual Piah Lam."

During the World Theatre Day celebration, Pu H. Rotluanga was honored as a distinguished guest. He shared insights into the growth and progress of Mizo theatre, highlighting its achievements and impact over time. Following his speech, he also conducted a short interactive session with the attendees.

The event was presided over by Mizo Drama Society President, Lalrinngheta, while Secretary Laltlanmawia, Asst. Professor, GHBC presented the official report. Remlalvuani, a 2nd Semester student from Govt. Hrangbana College, performed a song for the audience.

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote theatre development, the Mizo Drama Society presented the biennial Mizo Drama Award to Lalthangfala Sailo and Prof. Laltluangliana Khiangte in recognition of their contributions to Mizo theatre.
